Max Newman, Jeremiah McLane and I were playing the Greenfield dance one summer Friday, to a small crowd. At the end of the break, Kate Barnes walked in dressed all in black, with a motorbike helmet under her arm and a huge grin, saying "Hello Boys!"
Kate sat in on piano for the next set, the energy rocketed up, and we had 40 very happy dancers as well as ecstatic musicians. It's one of my favourite memories of playing for dances, and indicative of Kate's role as an ambassador of joy, musicianship, and unexpected occurrences.
Congratulations for that. And for all the tunebooks and albums and so on and so on. Truly a lifetime of contributions.
