No one is more deserving of this award than Kate Barnes, who dramatically altered the way piano players played for contra dances in her unassuming way.
I hired Kate to play with Allan Block for my going-away party in 1979 when I left Boston; we continued that partnership every time I cam back to New England to call. Debra, my wife, and I then hired her for many Lady of the Lake camps in north Idaho. We have enclosed some photos from those years.
Fond memories of a person with a kind heart, a quick smile, and ever so much energy and passion for music with a special understanding of dance that subsequently has made her playing substantive and special. We love you Kate!
