My favorite among many memories of David comes from English & American Week at Pinewoods, 1989. A scheme was hatched on the final day, and by evening everyone was in on it. Director Jim Morrison asked David, who was on staff and had been donning dance skirts all week, to wear trousers on the final night "for the sake of the old-timers among us."
David obliged, and at 8pm was in C# dance pavilion, wearing white pants and playing Scandi tunes from the dance floor, as people trickled in.
Every man in camp was wearing a skirt.
The whole evening was a blast, but what I remember best was that moment—David's sweet little smile as he looked around, chuckled to himself, and went on playing, unperturbed.
